Course Overview

Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA) is a four-year, 8-semester undergraduate program of Tribhuvan University (TU) under the faculties of Humanities and Social Science. From the academic year, 2074/2075 TU launched this program. Firstly, this BCA program was launched only in six government colleges so-called constitute the campus of Tribhuvan University with an allocation of 35 seats for each campus. Due to the increasing interest of students in this program, Tribhuvan University provides affiliation to 120 private colleges all over Nepal. All the colleges are running this program effectively.

BCA program prefers students to develop their career in the field of computer application and software development. This program is of 120 credit hour where 71 credit hour is of core computer application subjects, 9 credit hour is of Mathematics and statistics subjects, an elective subject is of 12 credit hour , and languages subjects contains 6 credit hours. Not only the subject’s credit hour but the BCA program also covers 13 credit hours of projects and internships. Moving inside the course, conventional lecture classes, tutorials, and practical-based learning of this course help students to understand and pursue their carrier in computer application and Information systems. The evaluation system of the BCA course is done in the GPA system. i.e. 4 GPA maximum.

Why to study BCA?

BCA course is designed in such a way that not only students from science background can get enroll in it but also a student from management and humanities have a chance to make their IT profession through this course. The structure of this course is designed in such a way that a student who enrolls in this course will be benefited from different aspects such as, an extra programming language which college will provide to their student from starting of the semester because this course main focus on different programming languages, Project work can give a challenge to the student through which they can learn the teamwork which helps to make the path on their specialized field and an internship help student to grow as an IT professional involving in different IT companies from Nepal. They will get a chance to work in a team with different real-world programming and work management and communication tools during an internship. After completion of this course, one can continue their further in MIT (Masters in Information Technology) or in any IT courses in Nepal. Students can apply to a foreign university to continue their studies because the BCA program is valid and highly prioritized all over the world

Eligibility Criteria

  • Students must have passed +2 level/ 11 and 12 grade.
  • Students must have scored 2 CGPA with a minimum of D+ in each subject.
  • Students must pass the entrance examination conducted by TU FOHSS.
  • For A-level students should have completed 3.5 credits also should have been provided equivalence by NEB.
  • Students from Management, Science, and Humanities can apply for this course with the above-mentioned academic requirements.

Entrance Exam Preparation

BCA is one of the best IT courses in Nepal. Government colleges are the main choice of students to study where there is a huge competition in these government colleges. Every year TU FOHSS conducts the entrance exam for BCA from which around 7000 students will apply for the BCA program from which all of those who have passed the entrance exam will get a chance to pursue their career in this program. Students should score at least 35 to pass the entrance exam out of 100. There are many entrance preparation institutes for BCA among them all an education platform Saral Shikshya which only focuses students to score well marks and get admission to government colleges with a highly skilled and experienced teacher and also, publish its own BCA entrance Preparation book for the students from which students can get prepared on their own.

Test Structure

English Grammar, Mathematics and General Knowledge with Grammar carrying 40% of the marks, Mathematics with 50% of the marks and General Knowledge carrying 10% of the total marks.
